Medical Retina Investigations<\/h2>\n

At The Eye Surgeons Group we are able to undertake a range of different investigations on the retina using state of the art equipment.<\/p>\n

Retinal Imaging<\/strong><\/p>\n

Diagnosing and treating retinal conditions often requires different investigations which each look at a different part of the anatomy or function of the retina. This is known as \u201cmultimodal imaging\u201d and enables a much better understanding of what treatments to use and also to monitor the responses to treatment.<\/span><\/p>\n

B-scan ultrasound<\/strong>
Just like ultrasound is used for other conditions. It is very valuable to check the status of the retina if we cannot see it as a result of bleeding for example, retinal detachments, tears, lumps, <\/span>bumps and inflammation.<\/span><\/p>\n

Visual field testing<\/strong>
Used to check the center part and peripheral parts of your vision.<\/span><\/p>\n

Electrodiagnostic testing<\/strong>
Occasionally required to investigate how the cells in the retina or optic nerve are working \u2013 particularly in suspected genetic cases.<\/span><\/p>\n

Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Angiography imaging using the same machine without any dye injection needed, showing the underlying \u2018choroidal neovascular membrane\u2019 highlighted in the bottom right. This results in the \u2018wet\u2019 or thickened central part of the retina and would result in a permanent loss of vision without treatment.<\/span><\/p>\n

Fluorescein and indocyanine green angiography<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

\u2018Dye tests\u2019 involving an injection of a water-based dye into your hand or arm and photographs taken as this circulates around the blood vessels in the retina.\u00a0<\/span>Very valuable for any conditions affecting blood vessels.<\/span><\/p>\n
